Biography
Mall Suicide was born on the day of a suicide that occurred suddenly in a Cape Town mall. Our message is influenced by the indifference shown a mere few days after the tragedy, and that is that the status quo is wrong and should change.
Mall Suicide is influenced by the bands that birthed the Post Punk genre and brought punk into the modern era: Green Day & Offspring, and their more pop counterparts: Blink 182, SUM41 and Simple Plan. Our catchy lyrics, often as controversial as our name, head on assault topics from politics to religion and relationships, to being caught having sex in a car park.
Raw guitar riffs, laden with distortion, simple but catchy with upbeat and memorable, foot-stomping-dance-inducing-lighter-in-air-moment guitar solos, are driven by solid bass and rocking drum beats - with our songs driven home by melodic vocals. These are the elements that define the sound of Mall Suicide.
