- in 1965 - The Newport Folk Festival took place. This particular show is remembered more for the fact that Bob Dylan was booed from stage rather than for the music that was performed.
Dylans non-performance was due to him playing his new electric set live for the first time. Many of his fans were folk purists and could not accept this rock 'n' roll infiltrating their festivals. Dylan later returned to stage to perform a couple acoustic numbers.
