I'm sooo bad at this technology thing. I think I am an incarnation of a Luddite or something. I tried to do an intro but instead posted the thing to myself as if I was someone else. I think the intro belongs here but I might be wrong about that.
Hi,
I thought I'd use my very first post as a bit of an introduction. I like writing wordy posts so bear with me. (I suck at Twitter and abandoned it after one day). I love music and as you can tell by my genre listing I have a keen interest in Metal although my musical leanings are not exclusive to it.
I am not a long time metal fanatic and I stake no claim to having an encyclopaedic knowledge of the genre but I do love a good growl, some badass riffage, the over-the-top emotion and of course just a little bit of technical wankery. I am actually really looking to interact with other locals who appreciate the same things I do and who can introduce me to cool shit I might not have heard before, especially with regards to South Africa bands.
I got into metal purely by synchronicity. I had absolutely no idea that some of these genres even existed at all. I really did come into the world of metal ‘ass first’ when I chanced upon a magazine ( Exit, I think it was) which had on its cover a picture of an American Black Metal musician, all hooded and corpse-painted (I think it was Xasthur or Leviathan) and was immediately drawn to it. Now at the time I had this musical craving or feeling for something darker but I didn't know what to look for yet. So I bought the magazine based on the cover and so encountered the band Sunn O))) who had been recording a more black metal drone type album with the two aforementioned artists. Also, and this is where is gets freaky, Sunn O))) had enlisted the help of Julian Cope, of Current 93 fame, to perform some spoken word for them. Current 93 has a famous album called Thunder Perfect Mind. At the very same time I was reading a certain ancient esoteric text called … Thunder Perfect Mind (I also have a bit of interest in Occidental Mythology/religion)! I took this as a sign from the universe to go down to the depths of Hades and find the most kickass, gut-busting, hauntingly beautiful and demonic metal I could find. And I have endeavoured to do this from that day forward. Now, I am not a fanboy but instead listen to each album on its merits. So I don’t know every word to every Sabbath song ever written but choose to rather dabble here and there. I do however have a great appreciation for the masters like Sabbath who have put out remarkable works of art and influenced just about every metal act out there. Hence my liking of: Sahg, Electric Wizard, Memory Garden, etc… Quick facts: Like eating: Chocolate Reading: The Koran (but keep falling asleep after like 3 pages) Works: For the man (I hate my corporate, soul-sucking job where bi-polar, mentally unstable, sadistic, ambition-whore harpies lord it over me every goddam day of my life! This is not an exaggeration. One day I’m gonna go Varg Vikernes on the whole lot of them. Current faves: King Crimson – Red Nokturnal Mortem – Weltenschauung Root – Black Seal Opeth – MAYH Immolation - Close to a world below In the Woods… - Omnio
Please come and say hi, especially during working hours so that I can pretend that I am being productive. Also please don’t be coming to me with nonsense about Limp Bizkit or Cory and the masked idiots of mallcore. I know I sound like an elitist but I care about what goes into my ears and I aint gonna fill it with shit!
Cheers!
