- in 1956 - Back in Memphis for Christmas with his Family, "Elvis Presley" called in at Sun Studios where a Carl Perkins' session was underway, with "Jerry Lee Lewis" as pianist and "Johnny Cash" present. Cash eventually went shopping with his wife but the other three settled down to a jam session with a few rock and a host of gospel numbers which Sam Phillips cannily captured by leaving the mikes on and tapes running. The legendary "Million Dollar Quartet" session (most of it a trio) was born, never heard commercially until well after Elvis' death.
